Furthermore, cultural celebrations promote acceptance and confidence within minority groups of Americans within society (Fisher-Borne el., 2015). The perspective taking strategy would also be useful in understanding the needs, thoughts and feelings of people from other cultures. It helps one to make sound judgments after assessing all the possible viewpoints of the affected people (Fisher-Borne el., 2015). For example, in Claudia`s case, perspective taking would help a social worker in recommending about other parenting techniques which can be utilized to make Claudia more comfortable in her environment after therapy.
Important Data to Collect
A social worker can collect various types of data from Claudia`s case to determine the best approach to helping the family. Information about the family`s physical environment, resources and material would be useful in determining their outlook on how they are treated by the people surrounding them (Nadan et al., 2015). For example, the data about Claudia`s parents level of income would be helpful in recommending other work opportunities or methods of acquiring an extra source of income. Information about their communication styles helps a social worker in assessing the interaction between Claudia`s parents and the community (Nadan et al., 2015). The data also evaluates their attitude toward others and how people from other cultures treat them. Data about their values and beliefs helps in assessing Claudia`s parent’s convictions to advise them professionally about their challenges.
Other resources that offer information about Claudia`s case include the federal policies that could be affecting her parent’s financial state and residency restrictions (Nadan et al., 2015). The national legislation help in determining the laws and regulations about immigrants and minority groups living in the US (Nadan et al., 2015). For example, Claudia`s parents could be facing challenges in the acquisition of better jobs due to specific government policies about immigrants. Additionally, Claudia`s mother states that she lacks a legal status due to high lawyer fees, court fees, and overwhelming paperwork that hinders her from gaining citizenship registration. I would also use evidence-based resources to advise Claudia`s parents about the best parenting styles for immigrant`s children. For example, the factual material would be efficient in training Claudia`s parents about child therapy techniques, such as child-centred nondirective play therapy.
Claudia`s eco-map would be a representation of many diverse ecological perspectives such as her social interaction with indigenous people, her friendship in school and her relationship with the kindergarten teacher. The parameters demonstrate her ability to engage in affect identification, verbalizing her feelings and sharing other relevant stories. (Nadan et al., 2015). The perspectives also describe Claudia`s opinion about good and bad people since her anxiety is as a result of a negative discernment about strangers.
The social worker in Claudia`s case uses the strengths perspective and multiple tools in her therapy by utilizing a sand tray which had attracted the client`s attention. Claudia selected a variety of figures from the sand tray and started informing the social worker that each figure was either “good” or “bad.” Eventually, she could differentiate between good and bad people in society, and her anxiety reduced substantially. Subsequently, Claudia had a better relationship with her parents.
