Question #1 –

In early August of this year, Amber returned from a 10-day work assignment in Serbia which she conducted for the US Serbian Embassy in Belgrade. All during her visit and after her return to the United States, she was constantly bombarded with questions and remarks about her safety and welfare. Although she posted photos about how much she was enjoying the work she was doing in Serbia –conducting diversity workshops with journalists—and the fun things she did at the end of each work day and on the weekend, she realized that she had to constantly defend the integrity of her work-visit to Serbia. So, she has decided to conduct a study on why her family and friends have the negative views that they do about Serbia. She hopes to use the findings from her research to help Serbian tourism agencies design a campaign that will make the country a tourism destination in Europe. So far, a lot of tourists, especially Americans, typically want to visit famous cities in Europe such as Switzerland, Paris and Italy. Write a qualitative research proposal that Dr. Amber can consider using when she gets ready to start her study. In doing so, as a minimum, be sure to address all of the basic steps she must follow when conducting a qualitative research study such as: 1) defining the problem; 2) selecting method(s); 3) defining terminology; 4) describing how she must collect background data on the problem; 5) and other procedures she should be thinking about, etc.

Question #2 –

Stigma is when someone views you in a negative way because you have a distinguishing characteristic or personal trait that’s thought to be, or actually is, a disadvantage (a negative stereotype). Unfortunately, negative attitudes and beliefs toward people who have a mental health condition are common. Stigma can lead to discrimination.

Instructions: Using your knowledge of qualitative research methods and procedures, explain how you envision pursuing this research problem about the stigma surrounding mental health. Please be very specific in explaining all of the steps and procedures you that should be followed to design a study that involves an institution such as ASU that receives government funding.
