Watch a film that addresses the dynamics of intercultural communication. You can pick one of the films listed below or an appropriate one that is not on the list. If you have not seen the film before and are unfamiliar with it, do some research on it in order to decide if it will work well for the assignment. Please do not pick a film that is used in sample papers I have posted.

Follow the guidelines below to complete the film analysis.

• Write a 4-5 page (double spaced) paper analyzing a film that addresses intercultural issues. Evaluate, critique and provide examples of intercultural communication theories, concepts, and ideas as they appear in the film. Please do not give a summary of the film, as that defeats the purpose of the assignment. Also, do not just simply provide a definition of the concept and move forward. In other words, I don’t want to hear something like “In the opening scene, John displayed assimilation. Assimilation is…..” You definitely want to define and explain the concept briefly, but your focus should be on how the concept appears in the film. So for example, focus on answering questions such as how, why, when, towards who, where, etc. 

At the end, briefly discuss the overall role that communication plays in the film and in the interactions and relationships seen within the film.

• Use bolded headers to identify each concept so that the paper is easier to follow and content is easier to spot. 

Provide in-text citations and a work cited page in MLA format to cite sources that you use to explain concepts. 

• Your objective is to apply course material to real life situations as portrayed in a film. Your grade will be determined based on your ability to thoroughly critique the film. Apply concepts from the book/class and provide specific examples from the film.

• For a better analysis, watch the film a second time. You may see examples of the same concepts several times throughout the film, avoid repetition of these concepts in your paper.
